Recovery College Positively Impacts This Community

The Recovery College Greenwich opened just last year in the heart of Woolwich, South East London, and is already flourishing. Over 400 students have enrolled in our wide range of educational courses, from creative writing, to mindfulness and IT skills.

The college runs courses that develop an individual’s skills, talents and understanding of recovery and is fast becoming a central wellbeing hub within the community.  Student Carolina* said: “I’ve taken the assertiveness, IT and creative writing courses and produced a newsletter for a support group I attend for families affected by substance misuse. The tutors are so caring and people with mental health issues need places like this college in order to grow.”

In July, Bridge CEO Raymond Sheehy presented students with award certificates to celebrate their end of term achievements and they were delighted.  A  summer  schedule  of  exciting  courses  ran from  very popular  animal handling to  arts  and  crafts. Students are looking forward to the new term starting on 7th September with a wide range of new courses. College Coordinator Jacquie Yeoman said:  “Our recovery college is a truly collaborative effort – students are at the heart of what we do and why we do it.

“Every course is co-designed with our peer trainers. Students also guide us with their ideas of what courses would work for them. This  shared  understanding  and  common  goals  makes  for  a  wonderful  friendly  and  collaborative atmosphere  and  consequently  we’re  welcoming  more  and  more  students all  the  time  and  rapidly expanding.”
